Bonchon Chicken

Waiting for my order...

To start with crispy fries with super spicy mayo!

Super Yummy!

Mix and match boxed meals - drumstick and thigh combo + kimchi coleslaw

Spicy bonchon!

My first bite

Super full after my awesome meal!!!

So finally i got to experience the latest craze in town. BONCHON CHICKEN! I love to eat korean food and one of my all time favorite dish is korean fried chicken. I was really happy when bonchon chicken finally came about. The place is cozy with lots of seats both for dine in customers as well as those that are waiting for pick up. I like how they trained the staffs. They are very friendly and welcoming and the best part, they know everything that's on the menu. When i went, there was a small queue so one staff asked me for my order so that when it's my turn to pay it will be a lot easier for me. They called me by my name and were very friendly with me. As i carry my tray to look for a table, one staff offered to carry it for me. i was surprised to think it was a fast food but the service is just great. As for the food, the menu is simple. It's basically all about bonchon chicken with a few sides, some korean dishes and lists of different drinks plus some dessert. I ordered the spicy mix and match boxed meal consisted of thigh and drumstick. The chicken was really crispy, a mix of sweet, spicy and salty and the chicken is very juicy. i also ordered kimchi coleslaw to go with my meal plus ice tea. i also ordered crispy fries together with spicy mayo which is awesome! i can't hardly walk when i finished my meal... I'm so impressed with the place, hungry customers are coming one after the other and pick ups are never ending. as i was about to leave, one guy is already waiting at my table. I give Bonchon Chicken 5 stars ***** for an incredibly great meal. GQ magazine was right after all it's really the reason to actually get excited about the fast food again.

Bean paste, tofu, and vegetable stew (Doenjang chigae) - Inspired

This is a tofu and vegetable stew that was inpired by Maangch's  Doenjang chigae 된장찌개.
I used shitake mushrooms, chinese cabbage, spring onions, zuchini, and soondubu or soft japanese tofu. i added some shrimps to add to the taste. Maangchi was right, the secret to a great tasting soup is a well prepared delicious stock. A really nice comfort food to eat on its own or with a steaming bowl of rice!

LIDO Cocina Tsina

Chicken feet

Pugon roasted special asado - Lido's specialty

Pancit Chami Mucho

We decided to have dinner at Lido Cocina Tsina tonight since it's near our house and also i haven't tried eating there. The place is just small but they have alfresco dining. they share the parking space together with a pizzeria place but there are ample parking space. The inside is full of pictures of the dishes that they have on the menu and staffs are friendly. the uniforms of the staffs reminded me of a lee kum kee bottle.. red, mustard and purple. ^_^ We ordered their specialty which is the pugon roasted asado. it was pleasant for me, reminded me of a chinese ham because of the smokiness. it came with a sweet sauce that i didn't like so i used soy sauce instead. Another specialty was the pancit chami. we got the mucho size which is supposed to be good for 2 to 3 persons. I personally like the chami but price was little bit expensive considering the portion size. We also ordered chicken feet dimsum. it was nice but i have tried better versions. My dad ordered a solo hototay soup but at Php 90 for a small cup, i think it's a bit pricy. Overall the place is nice and clean. they have restrooms which are a plus and it's near our house so it's convenient. As for the food, it's okay. for me there's nothing really special about it. it's like a normal chinese restaurant but a bit expensive because the portion size is on the small side. Will i go back again to Lido Cocina Tsina? Sure. It's not that great but at least you can have a decent meal.

돼지고기와 쌀 케이크와 김치

Kimchi, korean rice cake, onion, spring onion, garlic

pork tenderloin that i marinated in gochujang

the finish product

closer look

Yesterday me and my mom went to a korean supermarket near ortigas to buy some korean ingredients and goodies. one of the things that we bought was the korean rice cake or  Tteok (떡).
We actually bought it for Dakgalbi but i wanted to try it out first so i decided to cook something from the ingredients that are available. I don't know exactly what to call the dish so i used google to translate it to its korean name as simply what it is. Kimchi with pork and rice cake. It ended out with the name 돼지고기와 쌀 케이크와 김치 dwaejigogiwa ssal keikeu wa gimchi.

My version of 양념통닭 Yangnyeom tongdak (or yang nyeom tong dak)

My take on Maangchi's  양념통닭 Yangnyeom tongdak (or yang nyeom tong dak) or Korean seasoned fried chicken. I used chicken wings instead of traditionally using chicken parts. Also i don't have toasted sesame seeds at the moment so i just added sesame oil to the sauce before tossing the crispy chicken wings. All for the love of korean food!
